Richmond, VA – Acquisition Logistics LLC, a Virginia-based logistics company registered out of a Henrico County home, has secured a significant $1.26 billion contract from the U.S. Department of Defense. The contract is designated for the construction and operation of a 5,000-bed immigration detention center at Fort Bliss near El Paso, Texas, which is anticipated to be the largest such facility in the United States.
The news, initially highlighted by "Goad Gatsby" on social media who stated, > "Wow that's wild that the Richmond Times Dispatch is reporting that there is a logistics company at this address that just got a billion dollar contract to build a detention center," has drawn considerable attention. The Richmond Times-Dispatch confirmed the report, detailing that the facility will be a short-term detention tent camp for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Acquisition Logistics LLC, founded in 2008 by retired Naval flight officer Ken Wagner, specializes in supply chain management and logistics support. Prior to this substantial award, federal spending records indicate the company had received approximately $29 million in defense contracts over the past five fiscal years, primarily for logistics services.
The contract was reportedly awarded through a federal program designed to support small businesses. The new facility at Fort Bliss is expected to significantly expand the nation's capacity for immigrant detention, reflecting ongoing federal strategies concerning border management and immigration enforcement. The expected completion date for the construction is September 30, 2027.
