Attorney General Pam Bondi has issued a stern warning to several prominent Democrats, indicating that they could face arrest and prosecution for actions perceived as obstructing federal immigration enforcement. The warnings come amid heightened tensions between the Trump administration's immigration policies and Democratic-led efforts to scrutinize or counter them.

Bondi's statements specifically targeted former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who suggested local authorities could arrest federal agents violating California law, and Democratic Representatives Robert Garcia and Senator Richard Blumenthal, who proposed an "ICE tracker" to document alleged misconduct. "If you are telling people to arrest our ICE officers, our federal agents, you cannot do that, you are impeding an investigation, and we will charge them," Bondi stated. She confirmed sending preservation letters to Pelosi, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins, and former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot.

Democrats, however, contend their initiatives are aimed at ensuring accountability for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. Representative Robert Garcia clarified that the proposed "misconduct tracker" is designed to document "unconstitutional actions after they occur," rather than providing real-time tracking of agents. This effort follows reports, including from ProPublica, alleging that ICE has detained over 170 U.S. citizens, prompting calls for greater oversight.

The dispute unfolds against a backdrop of the Trump administration's intensified immigration enforcement, including increased raids and a rescission of policies that previously restricted ICE operations in "sensitive areas" like schools. Democrats argue that masked federal agents and alleged civil rights violations necessitate state and federal scrutiny. Attorney General Bondi and other administration officials maintain that such Democratic actions endanger law enforcement officers and undermine national security.
