Washington D.C. – A significant rift has emerged within conservative circles, as commentator Tucker Carlson publicly criticized Kevin Roberts, President of the Heritage Foundation, despite Roberts having previously defended Carlson amidst controversy. The development follows Roberts' staunch support for Carlson after his interview with white nationalist Nick Fuentes, which had sparked widespread condemnation and internal dissent within the Heritage Foundation.

The initial controversy arose when Kevin Roberts issued a video statement defending Tucker Carlson, asserting that the Heritage Foundation would not "cancel our own people" and labeling critics of Carlson as a "venomous coalition." This defense came after Carlson's interview with Nick Fuentes, a figure known for his antisemitic views, drew considerable backlash and led to resignations and an "open rebellion" among Heritage Foundation staff and board members.

However, in a surprising turn, Carlson recently assailed Roberts and the conservative think tank. During an interview with 1819 News CEO Bryan Dawson, Carlson stated, "There’s a man called Kevin Roberts, who I knew and really liked," before delivering a harsh assessment of Roberts' leadership and suggesting the Heritage Foundation was "collapsing." This public rebuke from Carlson came after Roberts had faced severe internal and external pressure for his defense.

Roberts' earlier video had aimed to shield Carlson from criticism, particularly regarding the platforming of Fuentes. This stance caused a "civil war" on the right, with prominent conservatives like Ben Shapiro calling Roberts' statement a "betrayal of the Heritage Foundation's history and principles." The subsequent criticism from Carlson has intensified the internal turmoil, presenting a complex narrative of loyalty and ideological divides within the conservative movement.
