The incident, brought to light by "Yuxi on the Wired" via a social media post, underscores emerging vulnerabilities in the rapidly expanding AI-driven live commerce sector.

The adoption of AI livestreamers has surged across China's e-commerce landscape, with platforms like Taobao, Douyin, and Kuaishou leveraging these virtual hosts for continuous, cost-efficient sales. These AI entities can operate around the clock, significantly reducing operational expenses and expanding audience reach compared to human counterparts. The market for livestream e-commerce in China reached an estimated US$695 billion in 2023 and is projected to surpass US$1 trillion by 2026, driven by technological advancements and consumer engagement.
