Cineworld to Re-Release 8 Christopher Nolan Films in IMAX Ahead of 'The Odyssey'

Cineworld is set to re-release eight acclaimed Christopher Nolan films in IMAX across the UK and Ireland throughout August 2025. This special cinematic event, running from August 20 to August 28, aims to prepare audiences for Nolan's highly anticipated next feature, 'The Odyssey'. The move allows fans to experience the director's extensive filmography on the large format screens he champions.

The re-release schedule includes fan favorites such as 'Interstellar' and 'Inception' from August 20-25, alongside 'Batman Begins' (August 22-24) and 'Oppenheimer' (August 22-27). Additionally, 'The Dark Knight' (August 23-25), 'The Dark Knight Rises' (August 24-26), 'Dunkirk' (August 26-28), and 'Tenet' (August 27-28) are also part of the lineup. As stated in a tweet by Culture Crave, this series is explicitly designed "to prepare for 'The Odyssey'."

This initiative underscores Christopher Nolan's long-standing advocacy for the IMAX format, which he has utilized extensively since 'The Dark Knight' in 2008. Cineworld emphasized that these screenings offer a chance to experience Nolan's films "the way he intended—with giant screens, incredible sound, and the kind of detail that only IMAX can deliver." Nolan is known for shooting with IMAX cameras and prioritizing practical effects to create an immersive viewing experience.

Nolan's forthcoming film, 'The Odyssey', is an adaptation of Homer's ancient Greek epic poem, starring Matt Damon as Odysseus. Set for a global theatrical release on July 17, 2026, the film is described as a "mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology." Other notable cast members include Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, and Robert Pattinson, marking a significant ensemble for Nolan's post-'Oppenheimer' project.

The re-release strategy builds anticipation for 'The Odyssey' while capitalizing on Nolan's proven box office appeal, particularly after 'Oppenheimer' grossed nearly $1 billion worldwide and earned him Best Director and Best Picture Oscars. Early ticket sales for 'The Odyssey' have already seen high demand, with some IMAX screenings selling out a year in advance. This August event offers a timely opportunity for audiences to revisit Nolan's cinematic achievements in their intended grand scale.
