Cursor has officially released version 2.1 of its AI-first code editor, introducing significant enhancements to its "Plan Mode" and integrating AI-powered code review capabilities directly into the IDE. Eric Zakariasson, a representative for Cursor, announced the update via social media, stating, "> "cursor 2.1 is out with a lot of improvements! go try out plan mode and ai code review." This release aims to further streamline developer workflows and improve code quality through advanced artificial intelligence.
The updated Plan Mode now features an interactive user interface, allowing Cursor to engage developers with clarifying questions to refine and improve the quality of generated plans. Users can also search within these plans using ⌘+F, enhancing the ability to manage and review complex coding strategies. This iteration builds on Cursor's earlier introduction of Plan Mode, which enables the AI agent to research codebases, identify relevant files, and draft structured plans before execution.
A key addition in Cursor 2.1 is the new AI Code Review functionality, which empowers developers to identify and rectify bugs directly within the editor. This feature complements existing tools like Bugbot, which operates on source control providers such as GitHub and GitLab, by providing immediate feedback and suggestions during the development process. The integration of AI for real-time bug detection and fixing is designed to accelerate debugging cycles.
Beyond these core features, Cursor 2.1 also rolls out "Instant Grep" in beta, promising instantaneous execution of grep commands by the AI agent and during manual codebase searches. The release further includes various browser improvements and extended support for GitLab and GitHub Enterprise, catering to a broader range of development environments. These updates collectively underscore Cursor's commitment to leveraging AI to enhance developer productivity and code reliability within its VS Code-based platform.
