Tesla's Cybertruck is poised to revolutionize home energy backup, with CEO Elon Musk stating the electric truck can power a typical house for up to three days from its battery pack. This capability, part of Tesla's new Powershare technology, positions the Cybertruck as a significant contender in the vehicle-to-home (V2H) market, offering resilience during power outages.

The V2H functionality allows the Cybertruck to deliver up to 11.5 kW of continuous power directly to a home. This bidirectional charging system enables the truck's large battery to serve not only as a power source for tools and other electric vehicles (V2L and V2V) but also as a robust emergency power supply for residential properties.

To utilize the Cybertruck's home backup feature, owners will need additional hardware, including a Tesla Universal Wall Connector and a Powershare Gateway. Professional installation by a Tesla Certified Installer is required to integrate these components safely into a home's electrical system, though existing Tesla Powerwall owners may require less additional equipment.

The estimate of three days of home power is based on an average U.S. home energy usage of 30 kWh per day, as stated by Tesla. Actual duration will vary depending on the home's energy consumption and the specific appliances being powered during an outage. This provides a substantial backup solution compared to traditional generators.

The Cybertruck's 11.5 kW continuous power output for home backup surpasses some competitors, such as the Ford F-150 Lightning, which offers 9.6 kW. This advanced capability marks Tesla's official entry into the V2H space for its vehicles, offering a compelling feature for consumers seeking energy independence and emergency preparedness.
