A 66-year-old driver has surrendered to authorities after crashing into a child's birthday party in Bladensburg, Maryland, on Saturday night, an incident that tragically resulted in one fatality and injured 13 others. The collision occurred around 10:15 p.m. in the 4100 block of 56th Avenue when a vehicle plowed into a crowded tent where guests were celebrating. Police confirmed the driver fled the scene on foot but turned himself in the following day.

The victim who died has been identified as 31-year-old Ashley Hernandez Gutierrez of Washington, D.C. Initial reports, including a social media post by Mario Nawfal, stated "11 injured, driver still at large," but subsequent police updates confirmed the higher injury count and the driver's surrender. Eight children, ranging from 1 to 17 years old, and six adults were among those hurt in the crash.

Among the injured, a juvenile female and an infant were initially transported in critical condition to trauma centers, according to Prince George's County Fire and EMS Department. Further updates indicated six juvenile victims have since been treated and released, with one remaining admitted in stable condition. Three adult victims are also admitted and in stable condition, while one has been released and another is pending treatment.

The Bladensburg Police Department is leading the ongoing investigation into the incident, with assistance from Prince George's County Police. The driver, a D.C. resident, is expected to face criminal charges as authorities consult with the Prince George's County State's Attorney's Office. The community was initially asked for help locating the driver before his surrender.
