The Ethereum network has witnessed a significant shift in its staking dynamics, with the amount of Ether (ETH) in the staking entry queue now exceeding that in the exit queue. This development, confirmed by on-chain data in early September 2025, signals a resurgence in confidence and demand for ETH staking. As noted by social media account ETHZilla, "The amount of ETH in the staking entry queue is now more than the ETH in the exit queue. ETH staking demand is on fire!"

This reversal is a notable indicator for the world's second-largest cryptocurrency. For weeks prior, the exit queue had been larger, leading to concerns about potential sell-off pressure following the Shanghai upgrade in April 2023, which enabled withdrawals of staked ETH. The current figures show approximately 932,936 ETH, valued at around $4 billion, waiting to be staked, while the exit queue holds about 791,405 ETH, or $3.3 billion, according to validatorque.com data from September 5.

The surge in staking demand is attributed to several factors, including growing institutional interest and increased network confidence. Rising Ether prices and historically low gas fees have also made staking more attractive and accessible for participants. A significant contribution to the entry queue came from an Ethereum ICO participant who recently staked 150,000 ETH, worth approximately $645 million, after eight years of dormancy.

This shift alleviates previous market anxieties and reinforces the long-term investment thesis for Ethereum. Analysts suggest that the balance is tilting back towards staking as a robust long-term bet on Ethereum’s growth, with potential structural demand from Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) also playing a role. Currently, around 35.7 million ETH, representing approximately 31% of the total supply, is staked on the network.

The Ethereum network's design, including its churn limit, manages the rate at which ETH can enter or exit staking, ensuring stability and preventing sudden fluctuations. The current dynamics, with entries outpacing exits, suggest a healthy and robust ecosystem poised for continued expansion.
