Washington, D.C. – FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino issued a stark statement via social media this week, asserting that he has uncovered information that has "shocked me down to my core" regarding public corruption and the "political weaponization" of law enforcement and intelligence operations. The declaration, made on X (formerly Twitter), underscores the new leadership's commitment to sweeping investigations aimed at uncovering what Bongino described as "THE TRUTH."
"During my tenure here as the Deputy Director of the FBI, I have repeatedly relayed to you that things are happening that might not be immediately visible, but they are happening," Bongino stated in his post. He emphasized a joint commitment with FBI Director Kash Patel to "stamping out public corruption and the political weaponization of both law enforcement and intelligence operations."
Bongino, a former Secret Service agent and conservative commentator, was appointed to the second-highest position in the Federal Bureau of Investigation in February 2025 by President Donald Trump, serving under newly confirmed Director Kash Patel. Both appointments were met with controversy, as neither Bongino nor Patel had traditional career backgrounds within the FBI, a departure from the bureau's long-standing practice of appointing career agents to these roles. The FBI Agents Association had previously advocated for the deputy director to be an active Special Agent.
Director Patel, a former congressional aide and critic of the FBI's past actions, has outlined a vision for the agency focused on combating violent crime, enhancing constitutional oversight, and increasing transparency. Patel has also expressed intentions to re-evaluate past investigations, including those related to the 2016 Trump campaign and the Jeffrey Epstein case. The new leadership has signaled a desire to significantly restructure the bureau, including relocating a substantial number of employees from Washington D.C. to field offices across the country.
Bongino's tweet reiterated the investigative approach, stating, "We are going to conduct these righteous and proper investigations by the book and in accordance with the law." He concluded with a promise of "an honest and dignified effort at truth. Not 'my truth,' or 'your truth,' but THE TRUTH," adding, "God bless America, and all those who defend Her." The statement follows recent reports of internal disagreements within the Justice Department regarding the handling of sensitive investigations, particularly concerning the Epstein files.
