Federal authorities have arrested Isai Carrillo, an individual identified as an anti-ICE protester, in a pre-dawn operation near Los Angeles. Carrillo is accused of violently smashing the windows of federal agents' vehicles during a pot farm raid that occurred this summer. The arrest was part of a broader federal sweep that saw a total of ten individuals apprehended for allegedly attacking law enforcement officers during immigration enforcement operations.
Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) conducted the arrest of Carrillo, who was captured on video allegedly damaging federal agents' cars during the July 10, 2025, raid at a licensed cannabis farm in Camarillo, California. Eddy Wang, HSI Los Angeles Special Agent in Charge, stated that Carrillo was arrested while attempting to flee. The incident stemmed from federal immigration operations that targeted Glass House Farms in Camarillo and another site in Carpinteria.
U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California, Bill Essayli, emphasized the distinction between peaceful protest and violence. "What is not constitutionally protected is a right to engage in violence, or to impede federal agents by assaulting or doxing or obstructing their operations," Essayli said during a news conference. The arrests underscore a firm stance against actions that obstruct federal law enforcement.
Among the charges, two members of VC Defensa, an organization federal prosecutors claim operates a rapid response network to impede immigration agents, were accused of conspiring to injure federal officers. One member allegedly used her vehicle to block government vehicles, while others reportedly threw rocks, injuring a federal contract employee. Virginia Reyes, also sought in connection with the incidents, remains at large.
The raids in July led to over 300 arrests, and authorities reported finding 14 minor immigrant children on the properties, along with one farmworker fatality. HSI's Wang affirmed the commitment to protecting free speech but warned of consequences for those who "assault, impede or obstruct federal law enforcement officers or destroy government property." The operations are part of ongoing immigration enforcement efforts.
