Gandhi Alimasi Djuna, widely known as GIMS, has cultivated a highly successful career in music, yet his personal life, particularly his romantic relationships, has largely remained private. For two decades, his marriage to Demdem (Adja-Damba Dante) stood as a cornerstone of his personal world, though it recently concluded amidst public speculation.

The Enduring Bond with Demdem

GIMS and Demdem first met in 2004, and their connection quickly blossomed into marriage in 2005 in a private ceremony. Demdem, a French woman of Malian origin, has been described by GIMS as an "anti-star," preferring to stay out of the spotlight. Despite this, she became an integral part of his life, supporting his career from its early days.

Their union resulted in four children. While GIMS is fiercely protective of his children's privacy, their names are not widely known, and they are rarely photographed publicly. He has often expressed regret over the limited time he could spend with his family due to his demanding career, a sentiment he articulated as early as 2013 when he announced a break from music to focus on his marriage and children.

Demdem's Public Presence and the "Tout Donner" Video

For many years, Demdem maintained a very low public profile. However, this began to change around 2016 when she made a notable appearance in GIMS's music video for his hit song "Tout Donner." GIMS revealed that he encouraged her participation to honor her and integrate her more into his world, given his frequent absences due to touring. This marked a shift, and the couple subsequently made more public appearances, attending events like the NRJ Music Awards and the Cannes Film Festival.

The Bigamy Controversy and Nationality Application

In 2018, GIMS's application for French nationality was reportedly refused. Media reports, particularly from Closer magazine, linked this refusal to allegations of bigamy, suggesting he was married to two women simultaneously—Demdem and a "French-Moroccan woman" with whom he allegedly had four children. This claim implied a total of six children for GIMS.

However, GIMS vehemently denied these accusations. In a 2022 interview with Le Journal du Dimanche, he explicitly stated, > "That's completely false. I live with Demdem and the children. I was married only once." He attributed the nationality refusal to a minor offense committed during his youth, asserting his record was now clean. Investigations by Le Parisien suggested the refusal was also linked to unpaid traffic fines and his residency status, as he and his family spent significant time in Morocco, not meeting the residency requirements for French naturalization. Despite the controversy, GIMS has consistently maintained that he has been married only once, to Demdem.

A Recent Chapter Concludes: The Divorce

After two decades together, Demdem publicly announced their divorce in June 2025 via Instagram stories, stating "Célibataire" (Single) and later, "Je suis divorcée" (I am divorced). This announcement followed months of cryptic messages from Demdem on social media, hinting at marital discord. One notable post from December 2024 read, > "When a man refuses to change, he seeks a woman who accepts him as he is, so he never has to mature. This is why such men often ruin their relationships with strong women, because strong women set boundaries and hold high values."

While Demdem's announcement was direct, GIMS initially remained silent. Reports indicated that he was seen with a new woman shortly after Demdem's public declaration. The divorce marks the end of a significant and long-standing chapter in GIMS's personal life, bringing to a close a relationship that had largely been kept out of the public eye for many years before its public conclusion.
