Google has introduced a new feature within its Gemini AI app, allowing users to transform static photographs into dynamic eight-second video clips complete with sound. This capability, powered by Google's advanced Veo 3 video generation model, is now rolling out to Google AI Ultra and Pro subscribers in select regions.

The integration enables users to bring still images to life by simply uploading a photo and providing a text prompt describing the desired motion and audio. "Veo 3 in the @GeminiApp can turn your favorite photos into 8-second videos with sound," Google announced via its official social media channels, adding that it is "available now to Google AI Ultra and Pro subscribers." This marks a significant expansion of Veo 3's accessibility, which was initially launched in May and previously available in Google's AI filmmaking tool, Flow.

To utilize the feature, users can select the 'Videos' option from the prompt box in the Gemini app, upload their chosen image, and then describe the scene and any accompanying audio instructions. The system then generates an MP4 video in 720p HD. This allows for creative applications such as animating everyday objects, bringing drawings to life, or adding movement to nature scenes.

Google emphasizes its commitment to responsible AI development, noting that all generated videos include a visible watermark and an invisible SynthID digital watermark. These measures are in place to clearly indicate that the content is AI-generated, reinforcing transparency and addressing concerns around synthetic media. The company also conducts extensive "red teaming" and evaluations to prevent the generation of content that violates its policies.

Since its launch seven weeks ago, Google reports that over 40 million Veo 3 videos have been generated across the Gemini app and Flow tool, highlighting a rapid adoption and strong user engagement with the new AI-powered video creation capabilities. The feature is expected to enhance digital storytelling and creative expression for subscribers globally.
