HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Michigan – U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Marysville station, in collaboration with law enforcement partners, arrested an illegal alien from Guatemala on Tuesday who was attempting to enter Selfridge Air National Guard Base. The individual is now being processed for removal from the United States.
Chief Patrol Agent John R. Morris of the Detroit Sector Border Patrol announced the arrest via social media, stating, > "On Tuesday, Marysville agents, with law enforcement partners, arrested an illegal alien from Guatemala attempting to enter Selfridge Air National Guard Base. He will be processed for removal from the United States."
Selfridge Air National Guard Base, located in Harrison Township, Michigan, near Mount Clemens, is a critical joint military community. It hosts units from the Air Force, Army, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, and Customs and Border Protection, serving as a significant operational and training facility for national defense and homeland security efforts. The base is home to the Michigan Air National Guard's 127th Wing, which operates various aircraft for air-to-air and air-to-ground operations.
The Detroit Sector of the U.S. Border Patrol, headquartered at Selfridge ANGB, is responsible for securing 863 miles of international water border with Canada, encompassing areas across Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, and Indiana. Agents in this sector focus on preventing illegal entries and addressing threats from transnational criminal organizations. Chief Patrol Agent John R. Morris oversees these extensive operations, emphasizing interagency cooperation in border security.
Unauthorized entry onto a military installation is a federal offense, typically falling under 18 U.S.C. § 1382, which prohibits trespassing on military reservations for any purpose forbidden by law or lawful regulation. Individuals who enter without permission can face fines and imprisonment. The processing for removal indicates that the individual will undergo immigration proceedings to determine their eligibility to remain in the U.S., potentially leading to deportation.
