West Feliciana Parish, Louisiana – Hut 8, a leading energy infrastructure platform, provided a construction update for its River Bend Campus on November 25, 2025, indicating significant progress on the massive artificial intelligence (AI) and Bitcoin mining data center. The development, valued at an initial $2.5 billion, is on track for its first phase to be completed by the end of 2025, marking a pivotal step in the company's strategic expansion. The update was shared by Victorious Sun on social media, stating, "> Hut 8 River bend Campus - Construction Update - November 25, 2025."

The River Bend Campus, situated on 592 acres in Louisiana, is designed to support a substantial 300-megawatt (MW) utility-scale power asset, with 200 MW dedicated to IT load. This ambitious project is expected to create between 1,500 and 2,000 construction jobs, followed by several hundred permanent positions with an average salary of approximately $120,000. The first phase includes the construction of two 450,000-square-foot facilities.

Hut 8 is strategically transitioning from its origins as a Bitcoin miner to a diversified digital infrastructure provider, focusing on high-performance computing (HPC) and AI workloads. Asher Genoot, CEO of Hut 8, previously stated in February 2025, "In our Power layer, we secured 592 acres in Louisiana for our newest River Bend campus, one of three sites comprising 430 MW of previously disclosed AI data center development opportunities." This pivot aims to leverage the company's energy expertise for next-generation, energy-intensive applications.

To support its growth initiatives, Hut 8 has secured substantial financing, including a $150 million investment from Coatue Management, LLC, specifically for AI infrastructure. The company also maintains significant liquidity, totaling approximately $2.4 billion through cash, Bitcoin holdings, credit facilities, and an at-the-market equity program. Despite a Q1 2025 net loss of $134 million during this transition, analysts view the strategic shift positively, with some raising price targets for the company.

While the project promises economic benefits, it has faced scrutiny from local communities and environmental groups regarding water usage and electricity demand. A second phase of construction is planned for additional data centers by the end of 2026, with the campus expected to be at least partially operational by mid-2026. The long-term vision for Hut 8 is to monetize power and become a formidable independent data center operator, aligning with the increasing demand for compute-intensive workloads.
