New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd is in critical but stable condition after being shot in the abdomen early Sunday morning in Midtown Manhattan. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on West 38th Street, outside the Sei Less restaurant, following a dispute that escalated into violence. Boyd, 29, was transported to Bellevue Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
Police sources indicate that Boyd was shot after an altercation outside the popular Asian-fusion eatery. Law enforcement is actively searching for a suspect who reportedly fled the scene in a BMW X6 SUV; however, no arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing. Witnesses at the scene were reportedly uncooperative with authorities.
The New York Jets issued a brief statement regarding the incident. "We are aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd and will have no further comment at this time," a team spokesperson stated. Teammates and public figures have expressed their concern, with Jets linebacker Jermaine Johnson posting on X, "Everybody please send prayers to my brother and teammate Kris Boyd and his family!!!"
New York City Mayor Eric Adams also addressed the shooting, posting on X that he is praying for Boyd and his loved ones, adding, "Although we’ve gotten shootings to historic lows in our city, we must continue to work to end gun violence. Too many young lives have been tragically altered and cut short by this epidemic." A college friend of Boyd's, Ernest Quander, told the New York Post that Boyd is "recovering well."
Boyd, who signed a one-year, $1.6 million contract with the Jets in March, has been on injured reserve since suffering a shoulder injury during the preseason and has not played this season. A seventh-round draft pick in 2019 by the Minnesota Vikings, he has also played for the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans, primarily as a special teams contributor.
