Kaiser Kuo's Spring & Autumn Debuts New Material in Intimate Shaxi Performance

Shaxi, Yunnan – Veteran musician Kaiser Kuo and his band Spring & Autumn are set to debut approximately ten new songs and unplugged versions of their classic material at the Flower Inn Guest House in Shaxi, Yunnan. The performance, drawing attendees from as far as Kunming and Shangri-la, marks a significant moment for the band as they continue their reunion.

Kuo, a pivotal figure in the Chinese rock scene, co-founded China's first heavy metal band, Tang Dynasty, in the late 1980s. He later formed Spring & Autumn (Chunqiu) in 2005, a band known for its unique blend of heavy metal and traditional Chinese music. The group released a critically acclaimed eponymous album before disbanding in 2016.

The current performance follows the band's highly anticipated reunion in March 2025, where they performed at the 330 Metal Festival in Beijing. Kuo had previously indicated that new song ideas were already in development, making this Shaxi concert the first public showcase of these new compositions. The intimate setting of the Flower Inn Guest House in the historic town of Shaxi provides a unique backdrop for the band's evolving sound.

The tweet from Kaiser Kuo highlighted the enthusiastic reception, stating, "Great crowd of local folks and some who drove from Kunming and Shangri-la to come see us! Spring & Autumn rides again!" This suggests strong fan support for the band's return and their new musical direction. The decision to perform unplugged versions also offers a fresh interpretation of their established catalog, appealing to both long-time fans and new listeners.
