Controversial right-wing activist Laura Loomer has revealed in a recent deposition that she was repeatedly promised positions within former President Donald Trump's campaign and a potential White House role, claims she asserts were jeopardized by a defamatory comment made by HBO host Bill Maher. The deposition is part of Loomer's ongoing $150 million defamation lawsuit against Maher and HBO.
Loomer initiated the lawsuit in October, alleging that Maher's on-air speculation in September of last year — suggesting she "might be fucking" Donald Trump and was in an "arranged relationship to affect the election" — was false, malicious, and damaging. She contends that these comments led to a "media frenzy" that ultimately tanked her White House ambitions.
According to excerpts from her transcribed deposition, Loomer claimed that Trump himself instructed his campaign manager, Susie Wiles, to onboard her in March 2023 for research and communications work. Loomer asserted, "I was promised a position multiple times, not just by President Trump, but also, by Susie Wiles," including a White House position after the election if Trump won.
Loomer further stated that a New York Times story detailing Trump's wishes to hire her ultimately sank her chances for the campaign role. She also suggested that the Maher's comments caused her financial damage by preventing her from securing a White House job, which she believed would have led to lucrative media opportunities, speaking engagements, and book deals, similar to those enjoyed by former administration officials.
Beyond the lawsuit, Loomer has been described as a "self-appointed loyalty enforcer" within the Trump administration, reportedly influencing the firing of at least 16 individuals she singled out on social media. Her deposition also included other provocative statements, such as unprompted remarks about other political figures, further highlighting her contentious public persona.
