New York City, NY – A shooting incident at 345 Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan on the evening of Monday, July 28, 2025, resulted in the deaths of four individuals, including an NYPD officer, and left several others injured. The suspected gunman, identified as 27-year-old Shane Tamura, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on the 33rd floor of the building, which houses the headquarters of Blackstone and the National Football League (NFL). The motive behind the attack remains under investigation, though authorities are exploring potential grievances related to the NFL.
The incident began around 6:30 p.m. EDT when Tamura, reportedly from Las Vegas, entered the commercial office building. Surveillance footage showed the suspect wearing a blazer, button-down shirt, dark sunglasses, and a bulletproof vest while carrying a rifle. According to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, Tamura immediately opened fire on an NYPD officer in the lobby upon entry.
The officer, identified as 36-year-old Didarul Islam, was among those killed in the attack. In addition to Officer Islam and the shooter, two civilians also succumbed to their injuries, bringing the total fatalities to four. Several other individuals were injured, some critically, either directly from gunshots or during their attempts to flee the chaotic scene.
Witnesses described a terrifying ordeal as the assailant discharged his weapon. One witness on the first floor recounted, > "It sounded like a barrage of shots... Like an automatic weapon. Like a high-capacity weapon." Following the initial shots, the gunman barricaded himself within the building as heavy weapons teams from the NYPD conducted a floor-by-floor search.
Authorities later found Tamura dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police revealed that papers found on the suspect indicated grievances with the NFL concerning its handling of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a neurodegenerative disease. Commissioner Tisch also noted that law enforcement in Las Vegas had documented Tamura's mental health history. The investigation is ongoing to fully understand why 345 Park Avenue, a prominent building also home to KPMG and Rudin Management, was targeted.
