The Morph blockchain has successfully deployed its Viridian update to the Mainnet on November 3, 2025, at 6:00 AM UTC, marking a significant enhancement to the network's capabilities. This major upgrade follows the successful completion of the update on the Morph Hoodi Testnet on October 27. The Viridian update is designed to introduce new features and improvements, primarily focusing on developer flexibility and overall network performance.
A key feature of the Viridian update is the integration of EIP-7702 support, which allows Externally Owned Accounts (EOAs) to temporarily function as smart contract accounts. This innovation opens up new possibilities for more flexible wallet interactions and advanced on-chain automation within the Morph ecosystem. The update also includes core upgrades, such as the Go-Ethereum client being updated to version 2.0.7, alongside the release of the Morph Node binary v0.4.5.
Node operators were given a critical directive to upgrade their Morph node binary to v0.4.5 before the scheduled Mainnet activation. As stated in the official announcement, "Node Operators: Make sure to upgrade your Morph node binary to v0.4.5 before the scheduled time to stay in sync!" Failure to upgrade could lead to nodes falling out of sync with the network, potentially causing inconsistent data or temporary downtime.
The Viridian upgrade is another step in Morph's mission to establish itself as a leading consumer-focused Layer 2 solution for Ethereum. Morph aims to bridge the gap between sophisticated blockchain technology and everyday utility, making on-chain development and payments more seamless for a broader audience. The platform combines optimistic and zero-knowledge rollup technologies to ensure scalability, security, and user-friendliness.
Morph recently announced its Mainnet launch on Ethereum in late October 2024, positioning itself as a "global consumer layer" to drive blockchain adoption. The project emphasizes a modular architecture, a decentralized sequencer network, and a Responsive Validity Proof system to enhance efficiency and flexibility. These technological foundations are intended to foster an ecosystem of consumer-centric decentralized applications.
