Notion has officially launched its Enterprise Search capability, designed to provide instant answers to work-related questions by integrating information across a wide array of connected applications. The new feature, powered by Notion AI and leveraging Cerebras Systems' AI inference technology, aims to eliminate the challenge of fragmented information within organizations. As stated by Notion on social media, "Some things are lost to legend... but answers to your work questions shouldn't be. Get instant answers across your connected apps with Enterprise Search."
The Enterprise Search functionality allows users to search across various tools, including Slack, Google Drive, GitHub, Jira, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive, with plans to expand to Linear, Gmail, Salesforce, and Zendesk. This unified search experience is enhanced by AI connectors, enabling Notion AI to index content from these systems based on user permissions. The system not only retrieves information but also generates up-to-date answers with context and citations, ensuring reliable results.
A key differentiator for Notion's offering is its performance, with Cerebras Systems enabling the platform to stream search results in under 300 milliseconds. Sarah Sachs, AI Lead at Notion, highlighted that Cerebras provides the "instant, intelligent AI needed to power real-time features like enterprise search." This speed is crucial for modern knowledge work, allowing for rapid insights from internal documents, meeting notes, and project files.
Notion Enterprise Search also includes a "Research Mode" that analyzes data from connected apps and the web to generate detailed reports, saving significant time on manual research. Users can choose preferred AI models, including OpenAI's ChatGPT and Anthropic's Claude, directly within the platform. The feature is available as part of Notion's Business and Enterprise plans, which now include unlimited usage of Notion AI tools.
Security and privacy are central to the new offering, with Notion AI adhering to strict standards such as SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001, GDPR, and CCPA compliance. The company emphasizes that Notion AI only surfaces information a user has permission to access and does not use customer data to train its models, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality for enterprise clients.
