OpenAI has announced the launch of a new platform dedicated to publishing informal and technical blog posts from its alignment and safety teams. The initiative aims to increase transparency and foster broader community engagement in critical AI research. Jason Wolfe, an OpenAI team member, expressed excitement about the development, stating, "Excited that OpenAI is going to publish more informal / technical blog posts about the great work done by our alignment and safety teams."
The new blog, which debuted with a "Hello World" post on December 1, 2025, is designed to share research more frequently and earlier in its lifecycle. This approach allows for the publication of ideas that might be too preliminary or fast-moving for full academic papers, serving as a "lab notebook" for ongoing work. The goal is to facilitate open dialogue and pressure-test scientific work with feedback from the wider research community.
OpenAI emphasizes that alignment and safety research is a shared effort across many teams within the company. The blog will feature contributions from various researchers focusing on developing and deploying increasingly capable AI systems safely, ensuring they adhere to human intent, avoid catastrophic behavior, and remain controllable. This move comes amid ongoing industry discussions about the responsible development of advanced AI.
The new platform is expected to cover a range of topics, including sketches, discussions, and technical pieces that might not fit the main OpenAI blog. It also highlights the company's commitment to expanding these critical areas, noting that the Alignment and Safety Systems teams are actively hiring. This increased sharing is positioned as a step towards collective progress in achieving safe and broadly beneficial Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).
