New York, NY – Sports journalist Pablo Torre's popular podcast, "Pablo Torre Finds Out," has entered into a multi-year, seven-figure licensing agreement with The Athletic, the sports media arm of The New York Times Company. The deal aims to expand The Athletic's audio content and subscriber base, marking a strategic move into more conversational and investigative sports storytelling.
The agreement, which was widely reported on August 5, 2025, sees "Pablo Torre Finds Out" joining The Athletic's podcast network while remaining under the production umbrella of Meadowlark Media, co-founded by Dan Le Batard. This licensing model allows The Athletic to integrate established, high-quality content without a full acquisition. The Athletic also secured a similar licensing deal for the "Sports Gossip Show."
Pablo Torre, a former ESPN personality, has gained significant attention for his podcast's deep dives into complex sports narratives, including recent reporting on alleged NFL collusion. Torre's decision to partner with The Athletic follows his earlier choice to opt out of a deal with DraftKings Network, citing an aversion to partnering with a sportsbook sponsor due to potential conflicts of interest.
"Now that I've made this licensing deal with the Times Athletic, I can reveal what I've been doing the entire time, which is actually selling a version of old media to people on the internet," Torre stated, explaining his approach to sports journalism to Maxwell Tani and Ben Smith of Semafor. This perspective highlights his focus on traditional, in-depth reporting delivered through modern digital platforms.
The Athletic's Chief Commercial and Development Officer, Sebastian Tomich, emphasized the strategic importance of such partnerships, stating, "This is the single best way for us to go out and reach millions of more sports fans." The move aligns with The Athletic's broader strategy to diversify its content offerings beyond written articles and enhance its cultural footprint within sports storytelling. The first episode of "Pablo Torre Finds Out" under the new licensing structure is anticipated to debut on September 4.
