PayPal has announced a significant partnership with AI search engine Perplexity AI, offering select PayPal and Venmo customers early access to Perplexity's new AI-powered Comet browser. According to PayPal's social media announcement, "> Select PayPal and @Venmo customers can skip the waitlist for early access to @perplexity_ai’s AI-powered Comet browser and receive a free 12-month Perplexity Pro trial." This collaboration includes a complimentary 12-month trial of Perplexity Pro, a premium service valued at $200, available through PayPal's newly launched Subscriptions Hub. The initiative aims to provide users with advanced AI browsing capabilities while simplifying subscription management directly within the PayPal and Venmo applications.

The exclusive offer is valid for first-time Perplexity users and is limited to one per PayPal or Venmo account. To avoid a 30-day waiting period, customers must have created their PayPal or Venmo account by September 1, 2025. The free trial period for Perplexity Pro extends through December 31, 2025, after which the subscription will automatically renew at the then-current rate.

Perplexity AI, founded in 2022 by former researchers from OpenAI, Meta, and Google, is renowned for its AI-powered answer engine that provides direct, cited responses. Its Comet browser, officially launched in May 2025, is an AI-native web browser designed to transform online interaction. Comet integrates an AI assistant for unified search, instant context, and automation, allowing users to summarize content, manage tasks, and even facilitate shopping directly within the browser.

This partnership underscores PayPal's strategy to enhance its platform's utility beyond traditional payment processing. The new Subscriptions Hub serves as a centralized platform for users to manage recurring payments, update payment methods, and unlock exclusive deals and bundled offers. Diego Scotti, General Manager of the Consumer Group at PayPal, emphasized the company's commitment to delivering requested tools that simplify financial lives and provide added convenience and rewards.

Perplexity's Comet browser is positioned as a significant advancement in the burgeoning field of AI-native browsers, aiming to shift the browsing experience from simple navigation to deeper cognition. Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas envisions Comet as an AI "operating system" for office work, capable of executing commands and automating tasks. This collaboration with major payment platforms like PayPal and Venmo is expected to significantly expand Perplexity's user base and market presence in the competitive AI landscape.
