Chicago, IL – Prosecutors have unveiled a complex web of violent crimes and extensive criminal histories involving four individuals connected to the December 2023 murder of Lyft driver Adriana Arocha-Duque, 34. The revelations came during recent court hearings, shedding light on a series of interconnected incidents that have plagued the city.
Three men, 18-year-old Derrius Young, 18-year-old Antwon Conyears, and 30-year-old Kameron Freeman, have been charged in connection with Arocha-Duque's death. She was found shot in the head inside her crashed vehicle in the Austin neighborhood on December 26, 2023, after picking up passengers. The Chicago Police Department confirmed that Arocha-Duque, an asylum seeker from Venezuela, was working to support herself.
One of the accused, Kameron Freeman, faces additional charges for the murder of Uber driver Mohammed Al Hijoj, 39, just three weeks prior to Arocha-Duque's death. Prosecutors stated that Freeman was part of a robbery team that ambushed Al Hijoj on December 3, 2023, while Freeman was out on bail after having an ankle monitor removed in a separate stolen vehicle case. Al Hijoj, a father and limousine company owner, was shot multiple times.
A fourth individual identified by prosecutors as part of the robbery crew, 18-year-old Daone Feazell, was killed earlier this year. Authorities indicate Feazell died when he attempted to rob a concealed carry license (CCL) holder in Humboldt Park. The CCL holder reportedly drew their weapon and shot Feazell during the attempted robbery on June 10.
Further details from court proceedings revealed that Antwon Conyears, also charged in Arocha-Duque's murder, has a significant juvenile record. Prosecutors noted he had 14 juvenile adjudications, including attempted murder, two carjackings, and 11 armed robberies. The cases underscore concerns about repeat offenders and the challenges posed by individuals with extensive criminal backgrounds.
