San Bernardino, CA – San Bernardino County Sheriff's Deputy Andrew Nunez, 29, was fatally shot on Monday, October 27, 2025, while responding to a domestic violence call in Rancho Cucamonga. The incident, which led to a high-speed pursuit and the suspect's apprehension, has deeply saddened the community and law enforcement agencies.

Deputy Nunez was shot at approximately 12:37 p.m. in the 12300 block of Hollyhock Drive after deputies were reportedly fired upon immediately upon arrival. He was airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton, where he was pronounced dead. Sheriff Shannon Dicus confirmed the tragic loss, stating, "We're embedded in sorrow. Unfortunately for our department, this has happened way too often."

Following the shooting, the suspect fled on a motorcycle, initiating a high-speed chase on the 210 Freeway. An off-duty sheriff's deputy performed a "legal intervention," striking the suspect's motorcycle and causing it to crash, leading to his capture. The suspect, who has not yet been publicly identified, was hospitalized in stable condition and is expected to face murder charges.

A solemn memorial procession honored Deputy Nunez, with law enforcement personnel escorting his body from the hospital to the coroner's office. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department Employees' Benefit Association (SBCSD EBA) has established an official memorial fund to provide financial support to his family.

Nunez had served with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department for six years, five of which were as a sworn deputy in the Rancho Cucamonga community. His dedication to public safety and his colleagues was widely recognized, and his death serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by law enforcement officers daily. Flags at the State Capitol will be flown at half-staff in his honor.
