NEW YORK – Poet and artist Sasha Stiles has brought her groundbreaking "A Living Poem" installation to the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, opening September 10, 2025, with an extended run through Spring 2026. This significant exhibition, also on display in Seoul starting September 22, marks a pivotal moment for AI-generated art in a major institutional setting. The project challenges conventional notions of poetry, transforming the museum's Agnes Gund Garden Lobby into a dynamic canvas for a continuously evolving digital artwork.

Stiles, a leading voice in human-machine co-creation, has often faced skepticism regarding her innovative approach to poetry. According to a recent tweet by Now Media, she was previously "told AI poetry was 'lazy'" and "dismissed for writing about machines instead of men." Despite such early criticisms, Stiles has consistently championed the integration of technology and language, redefining the boundaries of literary and visual art.

"A Living Poem" is a generative installation featuring a collaborative dialogue between Stiles and her AI alter ego, Technelegy. This infinite poem continuously rewrites itself every 60 minutes, drawing inspiration from text-based works within MoMA's collection. The digital work integrates sensory elements including vision, voice, and music, with an accompanying audio experience developed by Stiles's studio partner, Kris Bones.

The exhibition delves into the interplay between human and artificial intelligence, expanding the possibilities of language as a performative and living expression. It blends Stiles's handwriting, multiple fonts, and binary code, notably utilizing her unique "Cursive Binary" creation. This project underscores Stiles's vision of language as a dynamic system that can encode human experience across time and space, reflecting her commitment to exploring the role of the human voice in the digital age.

Organized by Martha Joseph, Associate Curator in MoMA’s Department of Media and Performance, "A Living Poem" is made possible through MoMA's ongoing partnership with Hyundai Card. The dual exhibition across New York and Seoul highlights the global relevance of Stiles's work in bridging traditional artistic forms with cutting-edge technological advancements, solidifying her position as a luminary in the digital art landscape.
