Electronic Arts' highly anticipated skateboarding title, Skate., is slated to launch into Early Access on September 16, offering a free-to-play experience across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms. The announcement has been met with enthusiastic reactions from early players, including content creator Theo (t3.gg), who shared strong positive feedback on social media. Theo, initially a "skeptical" observer, stated in a recent tweet, "They cooked. I’m so happy with this game. The fact that it’s free??? Nuts."

Developed by Full Circle, a studio established by EA specifically for this project, Skate. marks the return of the beloved franchise after over a decade since Skate 3. The game aims to redefine the skateboarding genre with its live-service approach and a focus on community-driven content. This reboot, often colloquially referred to as Skate 4, has been in development since its initial reveal in 2020.

The game is set in the expansive, open-world city of San Vansterdam, designed as a dynamic hub for up to 150 players per server. Key features include the return and refinement of the iconic "Flick-It" control system, enhanced with the Frostbite™ Engine for precise trick execution. Players can also utilize new off-board mechanics like climbing and parkour to explore the environment and discover unique skate spots.

Skate. embraces a free-to-play model, supported by optional in-game purchases primarily for cosmetic items, with developers assuring no pay-to-win elements or paywalled locations. The game requires a persistent internet connection, reflecting its vision as an "always online and always evolving" multiplayer sandbox. This strategy aims to maximize accessibility and foster a broad player base for the long-awaited title.

Full Circle emphasizes a collaborative development process, with player feedback continuing to shape the game throughout its Early Access period. Future plans include regular seasonal content updates, introducing new challenges, cosmetics, music, and world transformations. Executive Producer Mike McCartney stated, "Our goal with Skate. is to capture the freedom, creative expression and community of skateboarding, and share it with as many people as possible."
