Spanish journalist Javier Negre, a prominent media figure and staunch supporter of Argentine President Javier Milei, has publicly alleged that he was offered money to discontinue his backing of the president. The claim, made during an appearance on the program "Opinión Pública with Nicolás Fioren," suggests an attempt to influence media narratives surrounding the Milei administration.
“Me ofrecieron plata para que deje de apoyar a Milei,” Negre stated in the tweet, indicating a direct proposition to alter his journalistic stance.
This revelation comes amidst escalating political friction between President Milei and his Vice President, Victoria Villarruel. Negre, who co-owns La Derecha Diario and leads EDATV, has been a vocal critic of Villarruel, accusing her of obstructing Milei's agenda and "betraying" the president. The journalist's media outlets have frequently published content critical of the Vice President.
The tensions culminated in August 2025 when Vice President Villarruel filed a legal complaint against Negre, accusing her of "rebellion, threats, and public intimidation." Villarruel's legal action cited Negre's alleged dissemination of "false news" aimed at undermining institutional integrity and his accusations linking her to a purported coup against Milei. Negre, in turn, vowed to defend himself, asserting that the complaint was an attempt to silence him for exposing Villarruel's actions.
Javier Negre has cultivated a close relationship with President Milei, with his media platforms serving as key amplifiers of the libertarian leader's ideology. His claims of being offered financial incentives to withdraw support highlight the intense political and media landscape in Argentina, particularly concerning figures aligned with the current government. The alleged offer underscores concerns about external influences on journalistic independence and political discourse.
