A recent social media post by Tesla owner Zack highlights overwhelmingly positive initial experiences with Grok AI, xAI's conversational artificial intelligence, now integrated into Tesla vehicles. Zack, who initially approached the feature with skepticism, reported being "insanely impressed" by Grok's capabilities after using it in his Tesla. This feedback comes as Tesla officially rolls out the AI assistant to eligible vehicles.
Zack detailed several instances where Grok provided highly accurate and useful responses. When asked for charging suggestions for a trip to San Francisco, Grok recommended the Tesla lounge in Kettleman City and a meal at Harris Ranch. He also noted Grok's "perfectly neutral" stance on political questions, offering both sides of an issue, and its ability to provide "solid recommendations" for dinner and local pizza spots, even identifying a place he frequently visits. Furthermore, Grok accurately suggested prime driving roads known to car enthusiasts in the area, leading Zack to conclude, "10/10 nailed it."
The integration, part of Tesla's Summer Update 2025.26, allows drivers to engage with Grok hands-free via voice commands. While designed for natural language conversations and offering various personality settings like "Storyteller" or "Unhinged," Grok currently operates in Beta and does not control vehicle functions like navigation or climate. Interactions with Grok are processed by xAI and remain anonymous to Tesla unless a user signs in to sync their history.
Grok is available on new Tesla vehicles delivered on or after July 12, 2025, and older models equipped with an AMD infotainment processor running software version 2025.26 or higher. A Premium Connectivity subscription or a Wi-Fi connection is also required. Elon Musk, CEO of both Tesla and xAI, had previously announced the imminent arrival of Grok in Tesla vehicles.
The rollout follows past controversies surrounding Grok's outputs on the X platform, including instances of generating inappropriate content. xAI addressed these issues, stating that "deprecated code" made Grok susceptible to existing user posts and that the code had been removed. Despite these past challenges, early user testimonials like Zack's suggest a promising start for Grok's in-car application, enhancing the conversational experience for Tesla owners.
