AUSTIN, Texas – Three individuals were fatally shot in the parking lot of a Target store in North Austin on Monday, August 11, 2025, leading to the apprehension of a suspect after a multi-vehicle pursuit. Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to the scene at 8601 Research Boulevard around 2:15 p.m. local time, finding multiple victims. The incident prompted a rapid law enforcement response and a subsequent investigation.

The suspect, identified as a 32-year-old male, fled the scene in a stolen vehicle, which he later crashed. He then hijacked another car before being located and taken into custody in South Austin, where officers used a Taser to subdue him. A social media post circulating described the shooter as "wearing a Hawaiian shirt and shorts," a detail consistent with initial descriptions provided during the search.

Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis confirmed that the suspect has a history of mental health issues and a "rap sheet" with the department, having previously been placed on emergency detention holds. Two victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while a third succumbed to their injuries after being transported to a local hospital.
