Ontario, CA – A devastating multi-vehicle crash on the 10 Freeway in Ontario, California, on Tuesday, October 21, has resulted in the deaths of three individuals and injuries to four others. Jashanpreet Singh, 21, of Yuba City, the semi-truck driver suspected of causing the collision, has been charged with three counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and one count of driving under the influence (DUI) causing injury. Authorities confirmed that Singh is an Indian national who entered the U.S. illegally in March 2022 and was subsequently released into the country.

According to law enforcement, Singh was speeding and under the influence of drugs, failing to apply his brakes before crashing into slow-moving traffic. Eyewitness accounts and dashcam footage depict his truck slamming into multiple vehicles, triggering an eight-vehicle pileup that included several other commercial trucks. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has confirmed that an immigration detainer request has been placed on Singh by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, where he is currently in custody without bail due to flight risk.

Among the deceased are a Pomona High School basketball coach and his wife, though their names have not yet been officially released by the school. The identity of the third victim also remains undisclosed. The incident has drawn attention to immigration policies, with DHS stating Singh was released into the country under the current administration.

Reports indicate that Singh possessed a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) set to expire in October 2026, which was issued by California. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed this detail. However, the crash has fueled broader discussions regarding commercial driver licensing for non-citizens, with Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy recently announcing the withholding of $40 million from California for failing to enforce English language requirements for truckers.
