New York – The United Nations General Assembly recently passed resolutions calling for Israel's withdrawal from the Golan Heights and the West Bank, sparking immediate condemnation from both the United States and Israel. The resolutions were met with dissenting votes from both nations, highlighting a persistent diplomatic divide on the status of these territories.
Israeli UN Ambassador Danny Danon sharply criticized the UN's stance, stating, "The UN General Assembly once again proves how disconnected it is from reality." He further argued that the international body should instead focus on addressing "the crimes of the Iranian axis and the dangerous activities of militias in Syria," rather than demanding an Israeli withdrawal from the Golan Heights.
The resolutions come ahead of a planned visit to Israel by US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz from December 8-10. Waltz, who assumed his role in September 2025 in the second Trump Administration after previously serving as a Congressman and National Security Advisor, will be accompanied by Ambassador Danon. His itinerary includes meetings with senior government and security officials, tours of border areas, and regional security briefings across Israel's eastern, northern, and southern fronts.
Ambassador Waltz's visit is anticipated to reinforce the strong alliance between the United States and Israel, particularly in light of ongoing regional tensions and the recent UN resolutions. His past statements and actions, including his support for Israel's right to self-defense and his condemnation of anti-Israel biases within international bodies, indicate a continued alignment with Israeli diplomatic positions. The visit also follows intensive UN deliberations on post-war arrangements for Gaza, including US-backed proposals for an international stabilization force.
