Jesse Middleton, General Partner at Flybridge Capital Partners, has shared insights into his experience as a recurring investor on "The Pitch" podcast, highlighting the show's distinct methodology compared to traditional venture capital processes. Middleton, who has participated in three seasons of the popular startup podcast, praised the show's format for its founder-friendly approach and transparency.

"The show is awesome... Josh, Lisa, and team do a great job," Middleton stated in a recent social media post. He elaborated on two key differences: investors go into pitches "blind," without prior information about the founder or company, and decisions must be made within a tight one-hour timeframe. This contrasts sharply with the extensive due diligence and prolonged decision-making typical of conventional VC funding rounds.

"I rarely back anyone after an hour," Middleton admitted, citing portfolio conflicts and questions that cannot always be addressed on camera. Despite these challenges, he expressed admiration for his fellow investors on the show, including Charles Hudson of Precursor Ventures and Elizabeth Yin of Hustle Fund, noting their diverse perspectives and unique questioning styles. Hudson is known for his early-stage investments in enterprise software and fintech, while Yin's firm, Hustle Fund, focuses on pre-seed and seed-stage companies across various sectors.

"The Pitch," hosted by Josh Muccio, aims to demystify the fundraising process by showcasing real-time startup pitches and investor deliberations. The show has garnered a significant following, with founders pitching for actual investment from a rotating panel of venture capitalists. Middleton lauded the show for "stripping away the mystique and showing who we really are as investors," emphasizing that this transparency is precisely what founders deserve.

Flybridge Capital Partners, where Middleton serves as a General Partner, is an early-stage venture fund with approximately $1 billion under management, focusing on pre-seed and seed investments in areas like AI, enterprise software, and developer infrastructure. Middleton's background includes co-founding WeWork Labs and a successful career as an angel investor, further informing his perspective on the evolving landscape of startup funding.
