Washington D.C. – New allegations have surfaced against Senator Adam Schiff (D-CA), claiming he approved the leaking of classified information to undermine former President Donald Trump during the Russiagate investigation. These claims stem from a declassified FBI whistleblower memo, released by FBI Director Kash Patel, detailing accusations from a former Democratic staffer on the House Intelligence Committee.

The whistleblower, a career intelligence officer who worked for Democrats on the committee for over a decade, reportedly told the FBI in 2017 and again in 2023 that Schiff instructed staff to leak classified information. According to the declassified documents, Schiff allegedly stated in a meeting that the information, "which was derogatory to President of the United States DONALD J. TRUMP," would be used to "indict President TRUMP." The whistleblower reportedly warned that such actions would be "illegal, unethical, and treasonous."

In response, a spokesperson for Senator Schiff vehemently denied the allegations, calling them "baseless smears." Schiff's office stated that the claims originate from a "disgruntled former staffer who was fired... for cause in early 2017." They further asserted that "Even Trump’s own Justice Department and an independent inspector general found this individual to not be credible, have ‘little support for their contentions’ and was of ‘unknown reliability,’ and concluded that his accusations against Members of Congress and congressional staff ‘were not ultimately substantiated.’"

The White House, under the current administration, has characterized the whistleblower report as a "bombshell" and echoed calls for Senator Schiff to be held accountable. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated, "The President has already said he wants to see Adam Schiff held accountable for the countless lies he told the American people about the Russiagate scandal."

These latest accusations reignite a long-standing political feud between Senator Schiff and former President Trump, who has frequently accused Schiff of leaking classified information. Past investigations into alleged leaks during the Trump administration, including subpoenas for phone records of congressional members, did not result in charges. The Justice Department's internal watchdog found that prosecutors at the time concluded the whistleblower's contentions had "little support."
