Legendary actor William Shatner has announced a new foray into the cryptocurrency space, inviting his fanbase to design the graphic for an upcoming digital token. The announcement, made via a tweet, signals Shatner's continued engagement with blockchain technology, following his previous ventures into NFTs and digital collectibles. The contest requires submissions to feature only his name, "William Shatner," without AI-generated content, images, or additional words, emphasizing a modern, forward-thinking, and compelling aesthetic.
"Cryptonians! ๐ช You MAY have heard rumors that I am boldly venturing into the crypto universe once again! Maybe ๐ I have a token coming out that I don't have a design for yet ๐คท๐ผโโ๏ธ so I figure: let's make it open to to the fanbase," Shatner stated in his tweet. He further specified, "I'm seeking a stellar graphic design for a crypto token featuring ONLY my name ('William Shatner' in case you forgot๐) and designs: no AI, no images, or pictures of things and no extra words."
This initiative marks another chapter in Shatner's extensive history with digital assets. In 2020, he successfully launched 125,000 blockchain-based non-fungible token (NFT) cards featuring his memorabilia, which sold out in under ten minutes on the WAX blockchain. He also unveiled the "Infinite Connections" NFT collection in 2023, collaborating with web3 gaming firm Orange Comet, which included 3D representations of himself.
Shatner has also been involved in more foundational blockchain projects. He co-founded Third Millennia, a blockchain authentication platform aimed at safeguarding digital commerce in cultural markets through real-world asset NFTs (rwaNFTs). This platform, in partnership with Mattereum, tokenizes physical memorabilia, ensuring authenticity and provenance on the blockchain. His past involvement also includes a campaign with Blockchain.com and expressing bullish sentiments on the future of crypto.
The design contest offers a unique incentive: the winning submission will become the official design for the new token, and the creator will receive a signed photo of Shatner and one of the finished tokens. Submissions are due by midnight Pacific Time on Monday, July 28, to TokenDesign@WilliamShatner.com. This fan-centric approach aligns with Shatner's history of leveraging his iconic status to bridge traditional entertainment with emerging digital frontiers, inviting his audience to actively participate in his latest venture.
