Social media platform X has officially rolled out its new "About This Account" transparency feature globally, a significant update designed to help users verify the authenticity and origin of accounts. The feature, spearheaded by X's Head of Product Nikita Bier, displays an account's country or region of origin, signup date, and username change history, making it accessible by tapping the signup date on user profiles. This initiative aims to combat coordinated inauthentic behavior and misinformation, providing critical context for users.

The move has garnered positive feedback from some users, including Adam Townsend, who publicly praised the platform's efforts. "I'm not criticizing @nikitabier, I appreciate he's working around intricate issues, concerns & compromises to resolve transparency," Townsend stated in a recent tweet. He also highlighted a personal experience, noting, "Months ago I asked X to inspect a syndicate of account, it got shut down," indicating effective moderation.

Nikita Bier emphasized the feature's importance, stating, "When you read content on X, you should be able to verify its authenticity. This is critical to getting a pulse on important issues happening in the world." The tool is intended to provide users with sufficient contextual information to judge whether an account is legitimate or attempting to spread false information. Privacy toggles are included for users in regions where speech penalties exist, allowing them to display only their broader region.

The "About This Account" feature, which began its global deployment around November 22-23, 2025, builds on X's ongoing commitment to platform integrity. It specifically targets the challenge of identifying accounts used for propaganda or coordinated influence, a concern that has been prominent in various geopolitical contexts.
