YouTube, the global video-sharing platform, is officially discontinuing its long-standing Trending page, with the removal set for July 21, 2025. The decision comes nearly a decade after the page's launch in 2015, reflecting a significant evolution in how users discover content. The platform aims to pivot towards more personalized recommendations and category-specific charts.
The "Culture Crave 🍿" Twitter account announced, "YouTube is officially removing its Trending page," linking to further details. This move is a direct response to a notable decline in traffic to the Trending page over the past five years. YouTube stated that "fewer people have been visiting the Trending Page," as users now find popular content through diverse channels like recommendations, Shorts, comments, and community posts.
In place of the unified Trending page, YouTube will emphasize its YouTube Charts feature, which currently highlights popular content in categories such as music videos, weekly top podcast shows, and movie trailers. The company plans to expand these charts to include more content categories over time. Trending gaming videos will continue to be accessible via the dedicated Gaming Explore page.
For content creators, who previously utilized the Trending page for visibility and to gauge popular trends, YouTube suggests the Inspiration tab within YouTube Studio. This tool offers tailored content ideas based on audience interests and performance. The platform also continues to support emerging talent through initiatives like the "Hype" feature and "Creators on the Rise" shout-outs on its official channels.
The original Trending page was designed to capture a simpler era of viral content, where a single list could represent what everyone was watching. However, YouTube notes that today's trends are more fragmented, consisting of numerous videos from diverse communities and micro-trends. This strategic shift underscores YouTube's commitment to a more individualized and algorithm-driven content discovery experience.
