Yuga Labs, the blockchain technology firm behind the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFT collection, has rolled out significant updates to its Otherside metaverse, introducing new gaming experiences and advanced AI-powered world-building tools. These developments, announced as part of the company's 2025 roadmap, aim to enhance user engagement and facilitate broader content creation within the virtual world. The official Bored Ape Yacht Club social media account signaled these advancements on July 17, 2025.
Among the key releases is "Bathroom Blitz," an 8v8 death match set within the iconic BAYC bathroom, designed to provide an interactive gaming experience. Concurrently, the "Meet Me at the Clubhouse" experience has been launched, an upgraded version of the "Bubbles" social space that now accommodates up to 500 concurrent users, significantly boosting community interaction capabilities. These initiatives underscore Yuga Labs' commitment to evolving Otherside into a dynamic and immersive platform.
A major technological leap involves the introduction of AI-based tools within the Otherside Development Kit (ODK), allowing users to create 3D virtual environments using simple text commands via a built-in AI agent called Koda Agent. This innovation aims to democratize world-building, making it accessible even to those without coding expertise. Additionally, nearly 1,000 digital assets from 29 Otherdeed Biomes have been unlocked for ODK developers, providing extensive resources for user-generated content.
Otherside, built on the Ethereum blockchain and utilizing Improbable’s M² technology, operates its economy using ApeCoin ($APE). Yuga Labs has recently restructured its operations to focus primarily on the Otherside metaverse and the Bored Ape Yacht Club, divesting from other NFT collections to streamline its development efforts. This strategic pivot follows a record-setting achievement in February 2025, when Otherside set a Guinness World Record for the most players in a first-person shooter, with 2,197 participants in a single server during "Project Dragon."
The company plans further enhancements, including the full utility release for Otherdeed holders and Voyager 2.0 by the end of 2025, with a comprehensive "Resources" system slated for 2026. These updates reinforce Yuga Labs' vision for a community-driven, interoperable metaverse where users can actively shape their digital experiences and benefit from royalty-protected creation tools.
