Washington, D.C. – The National Bureau of Asian Research (NBR) is set to host the fifteenth iteration of its executive education course, "The People’s Liberation Army (PLA): An Executive Education Course for Analysts and Practitioners," from September 9 to 11, 2025. The program aims to provide participants with an in-depth understanding of China's military modernization and strategic capabilities, particularly in critical emerging domains.

A key session during the three-day course will be led by James Mulvenon, Vice President for Intelligence at Peraton Labs, who is recognized as a leading expert on Chinese military affairs, cyber warfare, and information operations. The National Bureau of Asian Research announced his participation, stating in a recent tweet, > "James Mulvenon (AMIR Consulting) is the instructor for the session on 'The PLA Information Support Force' for NBR's Sept 9-11 #PLA #ExecutiveEducation Course."

Mulvenon's session will specifically address "The PLA Information Support Force, Cyberspace Force, and Aerospace Force." This focus is crucial given the People's Liberation Army Strategic Support Force (PLASSF), established in December 2015, centralizes China's space, cyber, and electronic warfare capabilities. Its creation underscores Beijing's commitment to "informatized warfare," where information dominance is paramount.

The PLASSF is designed to provide strategic information support across all PLA branches, enhancing their ability to conduct integrated joint operations. Its key components include departments for Space Systems, Network Systems (encompassing cyber, electronic, and psychological warfare), and an Information Support Base. Understanding this force is vital for analyzing China's evolving military strategy and its implications for global security.

The NBR's executive education course is tailored for military and civilian practitioners, industry leaders, and research professionals engaged with China-related security issues. By bringing together world-class experts, the program equips attendees with specialized knowledge and skills to navigate the complexities of the PLA's strategic development and its impact on the international landscape.
