Archetype Entertainment, the Austin, Texas-based video game studio, has confirmed that its highly anticipated science fiction action-adventure role-playing game, Exodus, is slated for release in 2026. The announcement, initially made by Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks during an earnings call, solidifies the timeline for the debut title from the studio founded by BioWare veterans. Exodus was first revealed at The Game Awards 2023 with a cinematic trailer featuring actor Matthew McConaughey.

The game is a third-person sci-fi RPG that places players in the role of a "Traveler," humanity's last hope in a hostile galaxy after fleeing a dying Earth. A core mechanic of Exodus is "Time Dilation," where days spent on interstellar missions for the player character translate to decades passing back home, profoundly impacting relationships and civilization. This narrative choice aims to create deep emotional consequences for player decisions.

Matthew McConaughey is involved in the project, portraying the character C.C. Orlev, described as an all-knowing spokesperson and timeless observer within the game's universe. His voice has featured in several lore videos, providing insights into the expansive world of Exodus. The game also introduces unique elements like "Silicates," an alien life form that can transform hosts into powerful "Daemons," and features companions such as Elise Charroux.

Archetype Entertainment, established in 2019, is a division of Wizards of the Coast, itself a subsidiary of Hasbro. The studio is led by industry veterans including James Ohlen, Chad Robertson, and Drew Karpyshyn, all known for their work on popular RPG franchises like Mass Effect and Baldur's Gate. Their collective experience aims to deliver a narrative-driven experience with broad player agency.

Beyond the game, the Exodus universe is expanding into other media. A novel series by acclaimed science fiction author Peter F. Hamilton, beginning with Exodus: The Archimedes Engine, was released in September 2024, providing a prequel to the game's narrative. Additionally, an episode based on Exodus lore was featured in Prime Video's animated anthology series, Secret Level, in December 2024, further broadening the franchise's reach. The game is expected to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
