Cartoonist Scott Adams has fully transitioned his iconic "Dilbert" comic strip to subscription-based platforms, X (formerly Twitter) and Locals, following its widespread removal from traditional newspapers. Adams recently directed his audience to these new channels, stating in a tweet, "Ask Grok how to subscribe to see Dilbert on X or Locals." The new iteration, dubbed "Dilbert Reborn," is explicitly marketed as an "uncensored and spicier" version of the long-running office humor strip.

This strategic shift comes after numerous newspapers and syndication services dropped "Dilbert" in February 2023. The cancellations stemmed from controversial remarks made by Adams on his "Real Coffee with Scott Adams" program, where he referred to Black Americans as a "hate group." The ensuing backlash led to Andrews McMeel Universal, Dilbert's distributor, severing ties, prompting Adams to seek alternative distribution models.

On X, subscribers can access "Dilbert Reborn" for $3 per month. This tier provides daily new comics and a digital version of the Daily Dilbert calendar. Adams guides potential subscribers to his @ScottAdamsSays profile on the platform to initiate their membership, offering a direct avenue for fans to engage with his latest work.

A more comprehensive offering is available on Locals, a subscription platform owned by Rumble, priced at $7 per month or $70 annually. This premium tier includes "Dilbert Reborn," the "Robots Read News" comic, typically two daily livestreams without commercials, behind-the-scenes content, political commentary, and over 200 "Micro Lessons" on success. Adams has highlighted Locals as a platform that provides "creative independence," free from the artistic and size constraints of conventional publishing.

The move underscores a growing trend among creators to leverage independent digital platforms in response to content moderation challenges or to foster direct audience engagement. Adams had previously anticipated a decline in his newspaper income, viewing platforms like Locals as crucial for his future. This new model allows him to maintain full control over his content and its distribution.
