A new report released by Allstate, "The Trust Tipping Point Report," indicates that Americans' trust in each other has reached a critical juncture, with only 41% of U.S. adults trusting other people to do what is right. The findings, based on a national survey of 5,000 adults conducted between April 10 and April 30, 2025, were highlighted by Allstate CEO Tom Wilson, who stated, "Trust in government, business and leadership has declined precipitously around the world over the last two decades, threatening the foundation of freedom and economic prosperity." The report was released on June 26, 2025.

Despite the low national trust figure, the survey revealed a more optimistic outlook at the local level, with 59% of respondents trusting their neighbors and 74% feeling optimistic about the future of their communities. Furthermore, 68% of Americans report being involved in their local communities, with many expecting to increase their involvement. Wilson emphasized that leveraging community involvement to broaden relationships is crucial for improving trust and setting America apart.

Allstate is actively working to strengthen trust, having partnered with the Aspen Institute on a three-year initiative to address declining trust. The company has pledged $7 million to this effort, focusing on building trust within local communities through increased interaction and engagement. This strategic focus aligns with Allstate's core business, as Wilson noted, "People give us their money and they trust that we'll be there when something bad happens."

Wilson has consistently advocated for addressing societal divisiveness, even facing public backlash for previous statements. He remains undeterred, asserting that rebuilding trust starts at the individual and local level through "small behaviors" like volunteering and informal support. The CEO believes that America possesses the necessary resources, talent, and desire to reverse the trend, stating, "Uniting on community engagement will ensure increased prosperity and freedom in local communities and the country."
