Wilmington, Delaware – Luqmaan Khan, 25, was arrested and faces federal machinegun charges carrying up to 10 years in prison, alongside state charges, following the discovery of an arsenal of weapons and a detailed manifesto allegedly targeting the University of Delaware Police Station. The arrest, stemming from a routine traffic stop, is being hailed as a prevention of a potentially tragic attack on law enforcement.
During the initial traffic stop, officers discovered a .357 Glock loaded with 27 rounds, equipped with a machinegun conversion kit, and three additional 27-round magazines, along with an armored ballistic plate. "Court documents reveal his notebook named a specific University of Delaware police officer by name and included a detailed layout of the UD Police Station with entry and exit points marked," according to reports. This detailed planning indicated a direct threat against law enforcement personnel.
Following the initial arrest, FBI agents conducted a search of Khan's Wilmington residence, where they uncovered a more extensive cache of weapons. This included another Glock 19 with an illegal machinegun conversion device, a .556 rifle equipped with a scope and red dot sight, eleven additional extended magazines, hollow point ammunition, and a tactical vest with ballistic plates. The discovery highlighted the significant threat posed by the alleged plot.
Khan has since been separated from the University of Delaware and permanently banned from all its campuses. He faces federal charges related to the illegal machinegun conversion device, as well as state charges for possessing large-capacity magazines, concealed weapons, and resisting arrest. Authorities emphasize that the proactive policing during the traffic stop was crucial in preventing a potential massacre.
