A roadside emergency near Fernwood, Mississippi, saw a traveler stranded with a blown tire receive two hours of selfless assistance from local resident Klennis Anders, after a sheriff's deputy reportedly declined to help. The incident, which unfolded at a Love's Truck Stop, highlights a powerful act of community spirit. The grateful traveler, identified as Hillari Forrester, shared her experience, praising Anders for his dedication.
Forrester, on her way home from Baton Rouge, experienced a tire blowout and sought help at a gas station. She approached a sheriff's deputy who was pumping gas, explaining her predicament and her distance from home. However, according to her account, the deputy "looked at me and kind of brushed me off as if he had better things to do."
It was at this point that Klennis Anders, a McComb public works employee, intervened. Overhearing the exchange, Anders offered his help, stating, "come on I will help you." He quickly assessed the damaged tire, determining it was beyond repair, and discovered Forrester did not have a spare as she had initially believed.
Anders then took the initiative to drive Forrester to a Walmart, where he successfully negotiated with a manager to purchase a new tire despite the tire center being closed. Returning to the truck stop, Anders, along with his son and another young man, spent two continuous hours working to remove the old tire from the rim and install the new one, ensuring Forrester could safely continue her journey.
Anders explained his motivation, telling Forrester he had a 21-year-old daughter and would want the same assistance for her in a similar situation. Forrester expressed immense gratitude, stating, "I was truly blessed to be able to get back on the road and make it home safe and sound." Her family also extended appreciation for Anders' selflessness.
