New Delhi – India continues to assert its position as a leading global destination for medical tourism, consistently ranking among the top 10 worldwide. This robust standing directly counters recent claims suggesting a "paid psyops campaign against Indians" that lacks empirical or statistical backing, as stated by a social media user identified as "Hindutva Knight" on a recent tweet. The nation's medical tourism sector, valued at approximately US$6 billion in 2022, is projected to reach US$13 billion by 2026, attracting millions of international patients annually.

India's appeal stems from its advanced healthcare infrastructure, highly skilled medical professionals, and significantly cost-effective treatments. Procedures such as cardiac bypass surgery, which can cost over $100,000 in Western countries, are available for around $10,000 in India, offering substantial savings. The country was ranked 10th in the Medical Tourism Index (MTI) for 2020-2021 by the Medical Tourism Association, underscoring its competitive edge.

The Indian government has actively promoted the sector through initiatives like the "Heal in India" campaign and the expansion of e-medical visas, easing travel for international patients. Despite these successes, the sector faces challenges including perceptions of hygiene, the need for more standardized regulations for medical tourism facilitators, and competition from other Asian destinations like Thailand and Singapore.
