SFPD Seizes Six Dirt Bikes, Four Arrests in Crackdown on Illegal Stunt Riding

San Francisco police conducted a significant enforcement operation on Sunday, resulting in the seizure of six dirt bikes and an all-terrain vehicle, alongside four arrests. The action targets the persistent issue of illegal dirt bike activity and dangerous stunt driving across the city. Interim Chief Paul Yep affirmed the department's commitment, stating, "Anyone who engages in this illegal activity in San Francisco will be held accountable."

The operation, which involved the Citywide Plainclothes Team, Real-Time Investigation Center (RTIC), Drone as a First Responder (DFR), and Stunt Driving Response Unit (SDRU), utilized advanced technology such as Automated License Plate Readers, drones, and surveillance cameras. This technological approach allowed officers to track and apprehend individuals involved in the illegal activity. Four of the seized dirt bikes were reported stolen from various cities, including Yuba City and Modesto, highlighting a broader criminal element.

The crackdown follows years of frustration among San Francisco residents and officials regarding large groups of unregistered and non-street legal dirt bikes riding recklessly on public roadways, sidewalks, and pedestrian zones. Mayor Daniel Lurie emphasized the city's stance, declaring, "This activity will never be tolerated in our city." Supervisor Danny Sauter also indicated plans to introduce legislation to increase fines for such illegal activities.

The recent police action has garnered attention, with some observers noting its potential impact. Social media user Sam D'Amico commented on the operation, stating, "Whoa, this probably halved the dirt bike problem overnight since it legitimately seems to be a handful of guys." D'Amico further suggested, "If SFPD does this one more time, decent shot the dirt bike guys stop visiting SF at all," reflecting a sentiment that consistent enforcement could deter future incidents.
