Forest City, North Carolina – Two individuals have been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of national kart racing champion Tyler Weaver, 25, during a targeted home invasion on October 24. Weaver was gunned down in front of his fiancée, Nevaeh Quintero, inside their home. Police described the incident as a "robbery gone bad" and confirmed it was not a random act.
Authorities identified the suspects as Quitez Watkins, 35, and Jaquavious Craig, 26. Both men were apprehended on November 3, ten days after the incident, with Watkins taken into custody by the Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force and Craig surrendering to police. They are currently being held without bond at the Rutherford County Detention Center.
Forest City Police Chief Chris LeRoy stated that Weaver sustained multiple gunshot wounds. His fiancée, Nevaeh Quintero, managed to escape unharmed and alerted emergency services. Investigators have indicated that Craig, who was on probation for a felony firearm offense, is believed to be the "mastermind" behind the crime.
Both Watkins and Craig have extensive criminal histories, including prior felony charges. Watkins' record includes assault with a deadly weapon and drug trafficking, while Craig has faced charges for robbery with a dangerous weapon and felony breaking and entering. The motive for specifically targeting Weaver remains under investigation.
Tyler Weaver was a celebrated athlete, having won the Maxxis Kart Racing National Championship twice in 2018. Maxxis Kart Racing North America paid tribute to him, stating, "Tyler was one of the most proud champions we’ve ever had, and his legacy will always be part of the Maxxis family." His mother, Amanda Rogers, expressed her profound grief, saying, "He had a heart of gold, always willing to lend a helping hand... His kindness knew no bounds." Weaver, an electrical tradesman, and Quintero were expecting their first child in April 2026.
