Cambridge City Councilor Burhan Azeem is campaigning for re-election, drawing support for his commitment to tackling difficult policy challenges and fostering progress within the city. Jackson Moore-Otto, a supporter, publicly endorsed Azeem, stating, "I think...of our city as a city on a hill, where we are willing to go into the tough debates and discussions and make difficult choices because we feel like...it’s important to make progress.” Moore-Otto added, "That, in a sentence, is why I'm voting #1 for @realBurhanAzeem."

Azeem, the youngest person elected to the Cambridge City Council, is an MIT graduate serving his second term. His political career has primarily focused on addressing housing affordability, street safety, and universal pre-kindergarten, issues consistently highlighted in his campaigns and council work. He views Cambridge as a leader in progressive policy, a sentiment echoed in the "city on a hill" metaphor.

A key achievement of Azeem's tenure includes leading the passage of ambitious zoning reforms aimed at increasing housing affordability. He played a pivotal role in ending single-family zoning citywide and expanding zoning for 100% affordable housing projects, alongside removing costly parking minimums that previously hindered housing development. These efforts reflect his core belief that "it’s just too expensive to live here," as he previously stated.

Beyond his council duties, Azeem founded Abundant Housing Massachusetts, a non-profit advocacy group dedicated to expanding both market-rate and affordable housing development across the state. This initiative underscores his commitment to making Cambridge an accessible place for all residents. His focus on housing has garnered significant support from local advocacy groups, including A Better Cambridge.

As Azeem seeks a third term, he has indicated that transportation may become a significant focus for his future work on the council. He aims to implement substantial changes to improve ease of movement for residents, building on his established record of addressing critical urban challenges. His political approach emphasizes concentrated efforts on a few major initiatives rather than a broad array of topics.
