Washington D.C. – Conservative activist and founder of Turning Point USA, Charlie Kirk, was assassinated in June 2025, an event that has ignited a fierce debate regarding political rhetoric and alleged "institutional hate." The killing, which occurred during a campaign event in Kentucky, has drawn sharp reactions from prominent figures, including Elon Musk, and has been further fueled by claims from commentator Nate Friedman regarding a Harvard University mental health counselor.
Nate Friedman, known for his street interviews and commentary, recently alleged on social media that a Harvard mental health counselor made a disturbing remark about Kirk's death. > "I exposed a mental health counselor at Harvard University who says and I QUOTE 'God has some sense of humor' referring to Charlie's assassination," Friedman stated in his tweet. He further claimed that such sentiments represent a "deep institutional hate that is TAUGHT throughout the left."
The assassination of Kirk in June 2025 was a culmination of a series of violent political incidents that year, including shootings and an arson attack targeting political figures. Kirk himself had spoken about the potential for violence prior to his death. A libertarian conservative individual was arrested on campus grounds, claiming to have shot Kirk, and later told police he "was glad he said he shot the individual so the real suspect could get away." The arrested individual reportedly had a history of mental health issues.
Friedman contrasted his experiences interviewing individuals across the political spectrum, noting a perceived difference in engagement. He claimed, "I've never heard anything remotely as evil as this from the right. I've also never heard someone from the right constantly ask 'where is this going to be shown?' But on the left I hear it consistently." He added that "the left will often also very confidentially say things that are untrue."
The incident and Friedman's subsequent claims have amplified discussions around political polarization and the nature of public discourse. Charlie Kirk, a prominent voice in conservative youth activism, founded Turning Point USA in 2012 and was known for his strong support of former President Donald Trump and his criticism of liberal policies. His death has become a flashpoint in the ongoing cultural and political clashes within the United States.
